Letter to the editor (Day Eleven)

When I was little, I loved voting day. I waited until my parents got home so I could hear about their experience. Not because of the duty those 18-and-above possessed. Not because of the suffrage allowing both my mother and father the right to cast their ballot.

In addition to oral tradition demonstrating the importance of voting, it was the stickers and especially the little clippy things that proudly stated "I Voted" that my parents shared with me.

I need an explanation. From somebody, anybody. Why don't we get these tokens of our responsibility here in Cedar Falls?

What a feeling to pass a fellow member of the community, exchanging glances, saying, "Nice work. So did I." while gratifyingly flashing your badge of democratic duty.

Then going home to give your clip or sticker to your kids. Kids who dream of the day when they too get to go vote.

I'm trying to visit as many of the NaBloPoMo blogs as I can and I thought I'd say hi, I liked your blog.. :) We have to vote here, we have no choice. Oh well the choice is, vote or get fined. I like it that way though. Of course when you get into the booth you can vote for mickey mouse, or not even write anything. But as kids we loved voting day because at the polling place my parents went to there was a firetruck and you could donate money and they would give you a specially made fireman comic book which you could color in. Wow, that memory just came out of nowhere.. ;)

Agreed! We don't get stickers in NY either... I used to get them when I lived in CA. Maybe next year, we should gather volunteers together to pass out stickers in our towns. It is a great way to get awareness of going to vote in people's minds the day of!
